Muskoka                                      Whitetails

Muskoka Whitetails began with a dream in 2002 with the purchase of 50 acres in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

2002 was a busy year as we started the construction of our new home, and excavated the property for fence lines, access trails, food plots, and dug ponds. Our first deer purchase was a yearling buck from Timberlost Whitetails in Leamington, Ontario which stayed at Timberlost pending completion of the pens here on the farm.

In 2003 we finished the construction of the fawn pen, and first breeding pen. We also purchased and picked up a brother/sister pair of day old fawns for bottle feeding. In the fall our previously purchased buck was also picked up and brought home.

2004 was a big jump start to the farm with the doe pen being built and the purchasing of 5 more does, and 3 bucks from Majestic Whitetails in Wainfleet, Ontario.  These animals represented Genetics from Hercules ( half brother to “Jack the Ripper”), the Boss, Ed Bishop, Trinder Whitetails and a Wolf Doe. On July 1st. We bought and picked up a day old bull elk calf from Universal Game Farms in Coldwater, Ontario for bottle-feeding. Our breeding program was started that fall.

2005 was another big year when my personal and business partner Dr. Kelli Drost D.V.M. moved to Gravenhurst. She started a Large Animal Mobile Veterinary Practice with the clinic located right on farm. Our first fawns were born on farm that year and the buck pen was completed.

In 2006 we completed the building of the raceway and handling facilities. The new building incorporates a catch box/feed room, urine rooms (3), feed storage room, holding room, and squeeze/treatment room complete with weigh scale.

In the spring of 2007 we had our first whole herd testing for TB and brucellosis which went very smoothly but definitely tested the farm layout and handling facility design. We received a clean negative status first time round without any false positives.  All our deer are carefully observed and records maintained so each fawn’s sire and dam is known, exact date of birth, weight  at birth, and any details of interest. Fawns are tagged at one day old with a farm tag.  We are presently using two breeding bucks from different lines for natural breeding and looking forward to starting our A.I. program in the near future. This is an exciting year with our first deer sales and seeing our past years efforts starting to pay off, watching the results of our breeding program being expressed in antler quality. We can offer a full range of breeding stock including day old fawns for bottle-feeding, bottle fed does for calming your herd, open does, bred does, breeder bucks, and hunt bucks. We produce urine for sale, and sell pelleted feed. Farm tours are available along with farm layout and design advice for new farmers starting up.

The farm is literally built on Muskoka granite with stands of mature red and white oak mixed with numerous ponds in the pens for a natural picturesque setting. Along with the whitetails and elk, we also raise peacocks, Canada geese, and pheasants. The farm is situated on a 20 acre pond  full of native wildlife providing for excellent photo opportunities.
